Birchbox Goodies // July 2019

Have to say, this heat is not exactly making me feel like a unicorn at this moment in time (cheers, Global Warming 😒) so bear with me while I pretend the sweat is actually some kind of magical glow. This month, Birchbox are celebrating all things unicorn with a box full of gorgeous treats for us. In this box, I received a Floss eyeshadow, a Marcelle mascara, a tinted moisturiser from Lumene (my absolute FAVE brand), a sleep spray from This Works and a Percy & Reed de-frizz spray.

Floss Beauty My Everyday Eyeshadow in "Tokyo"

RRP £12.50
I am a sucker for a shimmery pink eyeshadow, especially in the summer and this is absolutely stunning! It has brilliant staying power and it goes on like a dream. I find it works best if you apply it to the lid with your finger and then blend it out with a matte shade (I've been pairing it with my TooFaced Just Peachy Mattes palette and it's such a gorgeous combo for summer)
Would I buy it again? Yes!

Marcelle Xtension Plus Curl Mascara

RRP £14.50
I'm incredibly picky when it comes to mascaras and to be honest there's only about 2 or 3 that I'd ever really recommend. I was hoping this one would be a good dupe for the Benefit Roller Lash mascara as the wands are very similar but I was left pretty disappointed. I always curl my lashes before I apply mascara but even that didn't help - I may as well have not bothered for all the good it did!
Would I buy it again? Nope!

Lumene Invisible Illumination Skin Tint

RRP £32.90
I honestly can't rave about this product enough, this is hands down the BEST tinted moisturiser I've ever used (I would probably go as far as to say the best thing I've ever put on my face in general). I'm a huge fan of Lumene; every product I try of theirs absolutely wows me and this was no exception. I find it applies best with a very dense foundation brush and a little definitely goes a long way. It just gives your skin a beautiful glow without looking too greasy and it feels so weightless, which is perfect for the summer when you don't want to feel like your skin can't breathe. This is definitely your-skin-but-better makeup! It's pretty pricey but I honestly think it's well worth the money.
Would I buy it again? I need a lifetime supply to be honest!

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

RRP £18
I was a little bit sceptical of this and I'm still not 100% sure if it really worked for me or not. I definitely noticed that I fell asleep a lot quicker when I used this but I can't really say if it actually improved the quality of my sleep or not. I'm also not a massive fan of the smell either, I don't really like lavender all that much and most sleep sprays use quite a lot of it as it has soothing qualities.
Would I buy again? Probably not, but I would try a sample size again to decide if I actually like it.

Percy & Reed Oh So Smooth Frizz Fixer

RRP £15
Aside from the unbearable heat, summer also means my hair gets ridiculously frizzy so I was pretty happy to see this in my box this month! I've had a few products from this brand before and usually they work pretty well too! I've tried this on both wet and dry hair and for me the best method is spritzing it onto a hairbrush and then applying it to dry hair. I think it did a pretty good job, to be honest I need industrial-strength hairspray or something to combat my frizz so I wasn't expecting too much from it. Personally, I've tried cheaper versions which work just as well, if not better, so I don't think it really lives up to the price tag.
Would I buy it again? Probably not, there are cheaper alternatives out there!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...
