Birchbox Goodies // September 2017

My first blog post in my new flat in Birmingham! It literally took me about half an hour to figure out the best place to take photos for my blog, so I hope you appreciate the effort I went to here 😉

So here is my September Birchbox review! This month, Birchbox has teamed up with lifestyle brand Oliver Bonas with a message to "Work hard, play hard & be kind" which is definitely something I can get behind! I really love Oliver Bonas as a brand, I've bought a couple of things from them in the past and they have some beautiful stuff. We also got the chance to choose the design of our Birchbox, either the Lucinda or Sass Squad print. I obviously went with the Sass Squad print! In this box I received a Polaar IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser, a Dr. PawPaw Original Clear Balm, a full-sized Manna Kadar Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush/Highlight/Eyeshadow and an Arrow BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm and a sample of Beauty Protector's Protect and Detangle spray! Read on to see what I thought!

Polaar IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser

I was really excited to see another Polaar product in my box - I had a sample of their Arctic cotton exfoliator in a previous box and it's probably the best face wash I've ever used! This took a little bit of effort to make it work as I found the ball was quite stiff and didn't move very easily but the more I've used it, the easier it is to move around my eye. It's a soothing eye gel that's designed to reduce puffiness and dullness around the eye area. I'm not 100% sure if it's made a huge difference to my skin per say, however it is particularly refreshing to use after a late night (and now that I'm a Fresher I'll be having lots of those!)

Dr. PawPaw Original Clear Balm

This balm has been an absolute god-send since the weather has started getting colder! It's designed to be used anywhere on your body to help with dry patches and you can also use it on your hair to help with split ends. So far I've only used it as a lip balm but I noticed a difference as soon as I put this on my lips and I reckon this will be living in my handbag from now on!

Manna Kadar Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush/Highlight/Eyeshadow

I was really underwhelmed by this product if I'm honest. I think I've had a Manna Kadar product before and I seem to remember feeling the same way about that too, so maybe as a brand these products just aren't for me! Personally, I wouldn't use this shade as a blush so I just decided to try it as an eyeshadow and highlight. It was pretty underwhelming as a lid shade as there was very little pigment. As a highlight it was absolutely shocking! It might be the shade more than anything else but I literally applied a tiny amount to my fan brush and it actually looked like I'd just put a shit-tonne of bronzer on my cheekbones! Needless to say I took it straight off again!

Arrow BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm

So I was a bit disappointed to have received two lip balms in my box, however to its credit this one is pretty cool. I've seen lip balms that change colour depending on your mood/pH balance on your lips but I've always thought they were a bit of a gimmick. This one does actually work though; on me it's quite a rosy/pink colour but when my mum tried it, it looked more brown-toned on her! I don't think I'd buy this product again, purely for the price (the Dr. PawPaw one is almost half the price of this) however it is a really nice lip balm for when you want a bit of colour!

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Spray

Ok, I am BLOWN AWAY by this product! I've probably mentioned before that I have quite frizzy hair and I find that blow drying especially causes a lot of frizz and dryness for me. This spray is absolutely amazing at fighting frizz! I've never had such soft hair after I've dried it and it has definitely minimised the frizz! I will 100% be buying a full size of this once my sample has run out!

So this is the look I came up with using the eyeshadow and lip balm (this was taken after I'd removed the monstrosity of a highlight) The eyes are a little bit darker than I intended them to be but you can see here the pinkiness of the lip balm!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...
