Birchbox Goodies // January 2019

This was very nearly titled as "January 2018" because I still can't get used to the New Year 😂 anyway, hello and welcome back to my bubble! Today I'll be reviewing the January Birchbox and all the products I got this month!

The Birchbox Team are definitely making sure everyone has a great start to the year with this super fun, super colourful box! It's definitely helping shift those January blues! In this box, I received a CLÄ’ Cosmetics cushion highlighter, a cleansing bar from Dr. Botanicals, a Philip Kingsley shampoo, an Afterspa face scrubber and a clay mask from Sand & Sky! I also got some adorable pom pom hairbands which fit with the theme perfectly!

CLÄ’ Cosmetics Essence Moonlighter Cushion in "Apricot Tinge"

RRP £22
Cushion make-up has been around for quite a while now but it's not something I've ever really tried to be honest, so I was quite intrigued to try a cushion highlight. I am mega impressed with this one - you get a little sponge in the packaging to apply the product and it blends it so well. I thought this might be a little bit dark for me but it actually gives the most beautiful champagne glow on my skin and I absolutely love it! My only criticism really is the size and the fact that it's quite chunky, so travelling with it is a bit difficult, although I really didn't need to do any touch-ups with it so I would feel pretty safe leaving it at home knowing it's going to last a long time!

Would I buy again? £22 is quite expensive for a highlighter, however it works so well that I probably would consider re-purchasing as a little treat to myself!

Dr. Botanicals Superfood Cleansing Bar

RRP £5.90
This is gonna sound so bad but I really don't have a lot to say about this product. I was expecting it to smell really strongly of lemons which I personally find really lovely and refreshing, but it just had absolutely no scent to it. Like, I may as well have used a normal unscented soap! It also claims to exfoliate the skin while using it but I definitely didn't notice that at all. The only positive I can really draw from this is that it's very good for sensitive skin, probably because there's no smell to cause any irritation.
Would I buy again? It's a no from me.

Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp Shampoo

RRP £24
I was actually pretty baffled to find this in my Birchbox given that never in my adult life have I suffered from a dry scalp so it's not something I would have put as a preference on my profile. I do have quite dry hair but that tends to just be on the ends. Anyway, I did quite like this shampoo - it's got a really refreshing cucumber scent and I think I've noticed that my hair is less frizzy since I've been using it. Can't confirm whether it works for itchy scalps, sorry folks!
Would I buy again? No, it's not a product I need!

Afterspa Facial Micro Scrubber

RRP £7
Again, another product that was kind of redundant for me. I do have really dry skin and I make sure I exfoliate at least twice a week to get rid of any dead skin cells, so I thought this might be really good for me. However, it really didn't do anything extra that my normal exfoliating face wash doesn't do and to be honest I feel like it's just an extra step in my skincare routine that I just don't need!
Would I buy again? Not a product that has any use for me, so no!

Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask

RRP £39.90
If you have any form of social media you've probably seen this mask being advertised by various influencers and celebrities, and some of the before and after shots are absolutely amazing so I was really excited to find this in my box. But I have to say, it really doesn't live up to its hype! At least not on my skin type anyway. I thought my skin would be really beautiful and glowy after using it and although it looked and felt really nice, I have definitely had better results with other (cheaper!) face masks I've used. I think a lot of the people who I've seen using it have more oily or problem skin, so maybe if you have that skin type it might work really well for you. But, yeah, I'll be saving my £40 and using something else!
Would I buy again? No, it just isn't worth the money for me! (However I do really like their exfoliating mask, so I would definitely recommend that for dry skin)

I feel like this was quite a negative review this month, which is a shame as I was so excited by all of these products! Apart from the highlighter, everything else has just been a bit of a letdown, so let's hope next month is better! 💕

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...
