To celebrate 20 years of their cosmetics line, Urban Decay released a new, limited edition palette, the XX Vice LTD Reloaded. The palette features 20 shadows, a mixture of newer shades and vintage shades that go right back to the beginning. It also has 3 new colours included. As a self-declared UD junkie, I was desperate to get my hands on this palette. It soon sold out online but it's still available at some concessions in Debenhams.
The palette also comes with a large mirror and a double-ended brush like most of the other palette ranges. I also received some samples of the Primer Potion (I've heard good things about this so I'm excited to try it) and 24 sample shades of the Vice Lipsticks, which , if you've read my review of Morning After, you know I love!
First Impressions
As you can see from the swatches, there's a mixture of matte and shimmer finishes within the palette and there's a really big variety of colours in there too. The matte shades didn't show up too well on the swatch but they are quite neutral colours so I think they probably just blended with my skin. Some of the colours I think I like a lot more than the others (love, love, LOVE the Barbie pink towards the end of my arm) so I reckon I'll definitely get the use out of those.
Suspend
Matte, grey/brown colour.
This looks quite pale in the tin but when you get it on it does go quite dark, so I would definitely recommend using it quite sparingly and blending it out a bit more.
Oil Slick
Glitter, charcoal-grey colour.
Ok so there is a LOT of sparkle in this one! I definitely think this is a shade I'd use more in the evening as it is quite dramatic, but it's quite pigmented which is really nice!
Roadstripe
Iridescent, white colour.
This little bugger is very deceiving! I made the mistake of reaching for this shade as I wanted to lighten my lids on one of the looks down below and it is so iridescent! Like, blindingly so! You get a lot of blue/violet undertones on this one and although it took me by surprise, I think it is a beautiful shade!
Gash
Metallic, red/brown colour.
I was a little bit apprehensive about this one, given the name, but it looks really nice on! It's got a slight shimmer to it and I could see a few copper undertones in there too which looked really nice!
Midnight Cowboy
Shimmer, pink/champagne colour.
This came out more gold on me, which I was a little bit disappointed with as normally I'm a big fan of this sort of shade. It's still pretty though!
501
Metallic, deep navy colour.
Again, another dark colour here, so I would probably recommend going in with small amounts, but I am really loving how deep it is without going black!
Shallow
Satin, silvery/taupe colour.
This is one of the colours that didn't show up too well when I did the swatch. You can't really see from the photo but it has a very subtle shimmery finish to it which I really like, so it's perfect for a more toned-down look.
Laced
Matte, pink/taupe colour.
Again, another on that didn't swatch brilliantly, but like I said, matte shades usually don't. The colour is still really nice and it's another one for the more subtle looks!
Hot Pants
Pearl, pink colour.
Oh hey there Barbie pink! This colour is seriously cute! I'm not really sure how I'm going to use it yet as it is very pigmented and bright, but I'm sure I'll think of something!
Mildew
Metallic, dark green colour.
I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of green eyeshadows but this is actually a really nice colour. I think because it's quite a dark green, it's not quite so in-your-face as I thought it would be.
Smog
Shimmer, copper/bronze colour.
I think this one came out more brown than copper if I'm honest, although I did expect that having seen the colour in the tin. It's still got a nice shimmer to it so I think used sparingly it could look quite nice.
Misdemeanor
Shimmer, olive-green colour.
Again, I wasn't quite getting the colour in the pan when I swatched this one as it came out more of a dark teal colour. I do think I actually like it better than I would if it was olive-green in fairness though!
Freakshow
Satin, dark purple colour.
This colour definitely did not disappoint! It was everything I was hoping it would be, not too dark that you lose the purple but deep enough for it not to be too bright!
Asphyxia
Shimmer, light purple/lilac colour.
This is another one that has a slight iridescent finish on it, although it's a lot more subtle than the others and the blue undertones look quite pretty against the purple!
Acid Rain
Shimmer, pale green/yellow colour.
Not gonna lie here guys, I was pretty terrified of this colour as I did think it might look a bit snotty (gross, I know, sorry) but it's surprisingly subtle which is a bit of a relief!
Moonflower
Metallic, rose-gold colour.
Another very subtle shade that didn't really show on the swatch, which is a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to a lovely rose-gold shade! Frowny face.
UV-B
Iridescent, violet/blue colour.
Wow, super iridescent and super bright! You get a lot of the violet undertones in it and as it's so pigmented, a little goes a long way! I really love the colour though, almost an electric-blue so it's perfect for a bit of wow-factor!
Goldmine
Metallic, gold colour.
Meehh... Not quite as gold as I thought it was going to be, for some reason it looks almost green on the swatch. Maybe this is the shade I should have worried about being snotty...
Twice Baked
Satin, brown colour.
So this is pretty much the shiny equivalent of Suspend, in that it doesn't look too dark in the tin but comes out VERY pigmented! Still, I liked Suspend, so a shiny option is no bad thing!
Anonymous
Matte, pale pink colour.
Yeah so the name says it all with this one! It's almost the exact same colour as my skin so it's pretty much invisible on the swatches. I think it will be nice as a base colour to work with though!
How They Looked
As there are so many shades here I didn't think my eyelids would appreciate me putting every single colour on them so I just decided to create two looks with the palette, one everyday look and something more suitable for a night out (although if you want to rock purple eyeshadow on a Monday morning then go for it).
As Autumn is nearly upon us (and the checked shirts are making an appearance) I thought I'd use some of the darker shades with a bit of brown for this one. I would probably wear something like this for everyday.
Crease - Gash
Lid - Laced and Anonymous
Outer corner - Suspend
So I went for a purple smokey eye for my big dramatic OUT OUT look (basically I just wanted an excuse to use Hot Pants, although it's not very clear in the photo).
Crease - Freakshow
Lid - Hot Pants and Asphyxia
Outer Corner - Oil Slick
Under Eye - UV-B
One thing I did find with all the colours I used was that they were really easy to blend, which is so useful if you're doing a smokey eye! The brush is also really good; the fluffy blending end is quite good for crease colours as it's quite little so it's easy to get lots of product in there! I also used a couple of Vice sample colours on my lips for these looks; first picture is Backtalk and the second one is ZZ.
Rating - 4/5
