Birchbox Goodies // May 2019

Does anyone else have a major urge to just spend the next few months sitting in the nearest beer garden or is that just me? Summer is well and truly making its return and for this month's Birchbox we're celebrating being able to spread our wings (although I wish those wings were taking me to a beach). In this box, I got a Lord & Berry eyeliner, a toner from Sukin, a Beautaniq mascara, a face sunscreen from Mimitika and a hair mask from Philip Kingsley.

Lord & Berry Line/Shade Eye Pencil

RRP £13
I'm pretty sure I've received one of these in a previous Birchbox and from what I remember, I liked this product then and I like it now! I don't really use black pencil liner unless I'm doing a dark smokey eye, in which case I'll use it to line my bottom lashline. This one is pretty pigmented and also smudges out really nicely so it ticks all the boxes for what I look for in a product like this. I do think the price tag is a little expensive though, especially for a product I wouldn't use that often!
Would I buy it again? Probably not; nothing against the product, it's just not something I'd want to spend £13 on!

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner

RRP £7.95
I've never seen a toner in mist form before so I was quite intrigued to try this product. As much as I like the actual toner itself (it's great for sensitive skin as it's got chamomile and rosewater in it) I don't think I'm a fan of using it as a mist. I'd much rather apply it directly to my face with a cotton pad as I feel like a lot of product gets wasted. I'm also not a huge fan of the scent either. You can also use this over makeup, so it's great for a little afternoon pick-me-up if your skin is looking a bit tired.
Would I buy it again? Probably not, I like the actual toner, just not the smell or the spray!

Beautaniq Beauty Nourishing Mascara

RRP £12
This is actually a really great little mascara, especially for when you want more natural looking lashes. I usually find that "lengthening" mascaras don't really do a lot for my lashes, but I definitely noticed a lot more length when I used this! I would prefer a bit more volume and density, however, for a more natural look, I think it's perfect. It's also enriched with almond oil and oleic acid to nourish your lashes (I haven't really used this enough to notice a huge difference but hopefully after a few uses I will!)
Would I buy it again? Yes!

Mimitika Face Sunscreen

RRP £17.50
As someone who burns VERY easily, I'm really conscious about making sure I properly protect my skin from the sun. I usually find that most normal suncreams are too thick to use on my face and they often leave me with bad breakouts. This sunscreen is absolutely perfect though - it's got SPF 50 in it which means great protection from the sun and it's thin enough to wear under makeup without causing breakouts. I've been loving using this in place of my regular moisturiser as it's very nourishing for dry skin!
Would I buy it again? Absolutely!

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer

RRP £9.50
I think this might be the first hair mask I've ever used where I've actually noticed a difference from the first use! Honestly, this made my hair so soft and shiny, I almost felt bad having to stick it up into a ponytail for school. I noticed a lot less frizz after using it as well and I still think my hair looks great, even after almost a week since I used it! My only criticism is that my hair was a little bit greasier the first day after I'd used it, but that's nothing a bit of dry shampoo didn't fix!
Would I buy it again? Yes! My hair looked and felt amazing!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...
