Birchbox Goodies // October 2018

Wow as if it's been an entire month since I actually posted anything on this blog. I really need to get back in the swing of things and try and update a bit more regularly, but second year is definitely a whole different ball game to first year and I'm really feeling the pressure to get all this work done!

That being said, it is nice to sit down and write about something that's not acting related, so here I am with this month's goodies from Birchbox! October's box is all about embracing all things autumnal and I can definitely get behind that! October is my favourite month of the year (not just because my birthday is this month) I love that all the leaves are starting to change colour, there's a little chill in the air and the evenings are perfect for getting all cosy! In this month's box, I received a face mask from BeautyPro, a Max Factor mascara, a Winky Lux lipgloss, a charcoal soap sponge, a natural deodorant and a sample of Lumene's Hydration Recharge Overnight Cream. I also oddly received a seventh product which was a sample of some Nuxe fragrances, but I'm not sure if that's a mistake or not (not that I'm complaining!) Read on to see what I thought!

BeautyPro Thermotherapy Warming Silver Foil Mask

RRP £5.95
I am always a sucker for a good face mask and I definitely needed this the other weekend after partying for 2 nights in a row (don't do it kids). Aside from realising I'm definitely too old for that shit now, my skin also took a beating as I tend to drink quite sugary alcohol. This is basically a sheet mask full of lovely ingredients such as vitamin C and green tea. I didn't really feel the warming effect it's supposed to have, but my skin felt really soothed afterwards.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara

RRP £7.99
I've never actually tried anything from Max Factor, so I was pretty excited to try not only a new product but a new bran as well, especially one that's got such a good reputation. However, I thought this was a bit rubbish really. I have quite short, stubby lashes so I prefer mascaras that lengthen and curl. This claims to be a volumizing mascara but I definitely didn't notice anything particularly full about mine after using it. It did work quite well on my bottom lashes, however, so maybe I'll keep it to use on those.

Winky Lux Disco Gloss in "Far Out"

RRP £13
Ok so this type of product is definitely right up my street, but it ended up being a bit of a disappointment. I actually used it as a lip topper over another lipstick for a party and I was expecting it to be really full coverage. It wasn't. I barely got any glitter out of it and it rubbed off within about 10 minutes. Not very good considering the price tag!

Daily Concepts Multi-Functional Charcoal Soap Sponge

RRP £6
I was really intrigued about this product when I first received it as I've never seen anything like this before. As you can see from the picture, one side is a sponge and the other is covered in charcoal soap. It's meant to be a gentle exfoliator and as someone who suffers a bit with eczema, I thought this would be perfect for me. I've been using it a couple of times a week when I get any dry patches and it does a really good job of exfoliating without being too harsh. It doesn't smell too bad either, which is handy - definitely one to try if you've got sensitive skin!

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

I have been keeping my eyes out for a good natural deodorant and I think I may have found it! This one is flavoured with bergamot and lime and it smells absolutely divine! It's got a wonderful citrus scent and it does a pretty good job of keeping me fresh all day. My only criticism is that it's quite a dry formula which makes it drag on my skin a bit when I'm applying it - this has led to a little bit of irritation but I think I just need to be a bit more careful when I'm using it.

Lumene Hydration Recharge Overnight Cream

RRP £17.90
Lumene has become one of my favourite skincare brands and whenever I see one of their products in my Birchbox I get so excited! This product was no exception - I'm a bit sad there was only enough for one use as it was so good! My skin felt so soft and smooth after using it and I definitely noticed a glow to my skin the next morning!

So that's another Birchbox review done and dusted - I hope you enjoyed reading! I will try and post a bit more regularly on here but sometimes life gets in the way a little.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...
