Birchbox Goodies // June 2018

Happy birthday Birchbox! It's the company's 5th birthday this month and to celebrate they've created this beautiful keepsake tin inspired by British tea parties - so adorable! In this month's Birchbox I received an Ella Eden eyeshadow, the POREfessional Pearl Primer from Benefit, a Number 4 smoothing balm, a suncream from Polaar and a Lord & Berry strobing pencil, as well as an assortment of 3 teabags from Whittard! Unfortunately, I don't actually like tea so they will be going to one of my friends to enjoy! Read on to find out what I thought about the other products!

Ella Eden Compact Eyeshadow in "Faith"

We were able to choose which shade we received in this eyeshadow - I went with "Faith" as I'd already seen the other shade swatched on someone with a similar skin tone to me and because it was a really pale pink, it didn't show up very well. This one is a really lovely shimmery coffee-shade. It blended out really easily and was also quite pigmented. I have to say, it's not really anything special. I have a lot of shades that are similar to this one and I feel like once you've tried one shimmery brown shade you've tried them all.

Benefit POREfessional Pearl Primer

I have been wanting to try this primer ever since it came out, but I didn't really want to go and spend £10 on a mini version as all the primers I've tried from this range have just pilled underneath my make up or attached themselves to any dry patches on my face. However, this one didn't which I was really surprised at! It's quite a creamy formula, and not quite as silicone-y as the regular POREfessional primer. I felt like it definitely made my skin look a little brighter and even after wearing it all day, my make up was still looking good and it didn't feel heavy on the skin!

Number 4 Jour d'automne Smoothing Balm

I was quite looking forward to trying this product - I have quite dry, frizzy hair and in the summer it just turns into a big mess from the heat, so anything that claims to reduce that will immediately catch my attention. I have to say, I didn't really notice a difference with this product and honestly, it just made my hair look and feel really dirty and greasy.  I ended up just sticking my hair up in a bun even though I'd only just washed it so that was a bit of a disappointment.

Polaar Velvety Sun Fluid

Another product that is perfect for me as I burn very easily! I always have to use at least factor 30, even in the UK, but I hate putting normal suncream on my face as it just causes loads of break-outs and isn't the easiest to apply makeup over. I haven't actually tried this yet as I'm still at uni so most of my day is spent indoors, however, I did test it on my arm - as well as smelling amazing it was also really lightweight, which makes me think it will be perfect to use on my face!

Lord & Berry Strobing Highlighter Pencil

Another product that was a real disappointment for me. I personally hate trying to use a pencil to create what a powder does, whether that's a highlighter or a blush and this was no exception. It's really hard to blend out and to be honest the pigment wasn't that great either - I'll definitely be sticking to either cream or powder highlighters in future!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...
