Same Me, But Better // My Goals for 2018

Wow, I can't believe I'm sat here writing my first blog post of 2018; I feel like Christmas absolutely flew by! I also can't believe I've managed to haul my arse out of bed to come and sit in front of a computer and write this, given my extremely delicate and fragile state after a few too many glasses (bottles) of prosecco were consumed last night! Start as you mean to go on and all that jazz!
I thought I'd use my first post of the year to talk about some goals I've set myself for 2018. They're not hugely life-changing and a couple are already things that I started trying to implement last year, but either fell off the wagon with them or need an extra push to continue. 2017 was a pretty ok year to be honest; it had its ups and downs as always and despite a few struggles with my mental health and general life-getting-in-the-way moments, I think I had a good year. I managed to achieve one of my dreams of getting into drama school and I've met some great people along the way, not to mention a beautiful holiday to Rome and hitting the 2 year mark with my lovely boyfriend. There's still a few things that I want to achieve, so what better time to start setting those goals than the start of a brand new year?

Get fit and eat healthily!

So these are probably my main goals for the year and they're definitely the hardest things for me to stick to! I tend to have a couple of weeks where I stick to doing workouts and eating really good, nutritious meals and then I'll have a blow out and completely lose all motivation. Since coming to drama school I've realised how much fitter I need to be in order to keep up with the intense training I'm receiving; this isn't about losing weight (although I've eaten so much chocolate over Christmas I might as well be wrapped up in a Quality Street wrapper!) it's about making sure my body has the tools to cope with the requirements of being a professional actor. During my year out I did start going to the gym fairly regularly and I had every intention of keeping up my membership when I moved to Birmingham. However, due to the long hours of the course and the fact I have to work every Saturday in order to eat, I soon realised there was only one day a week I could commit to getting in a gym session, which really isn't worth £17.99 a month. I've also been suffering with a lot of pain in my feet and my shin splints have been flaring up a lot during our movement classes which really hasn't helped. I went and saw a physiotherapist before Christmas who said this was all down to me being very hyper-mobile and she gave me some advice and some exercises to do, so I'm hoping that these coupled with the exercises I learnt at the gym and in my lessons will start pushing me towards getting back to a good physical foundation! I might also try and find a cheaper gym, but I think I've got enough to be ok on my own for now!

As for the healthy eating, again it's something I started getting into in my year out and I think I've stuck to it fairly well. I've found the Joe Wicks Lean in 15 books have been an absolute God-send as most of the recipes are fairly easy and I can make adjustments for the things that I don't really like. I just need to learn how to stop reaching for the chocolate whenever I'm bored or sad or peckish!

Keep on top of schoolwork!

To be fair, this is something that I'm not too bad with, I just want to make sure I keep doing it throughout the year as from this term onwards it will only get harder! I always make sure I hand in my work on time, but sometimes I do let things pile up, so that's definitely a habit I need to get out of!

Bake every weekend!

Baking is something else that I really got into during my gap years and I haven't done any since I moved to Birmingham, which is a shame because I really enjoy it and I did get quite good at it! So I'm making a commitment to start again. Every weekend might not necessarily be achievable with work and being a poor student, but I will do it as much as possible! I'd also like to have a go at some vegan baking too.

Blog more regularly!

Well here I am sticking to my resolution on day one! Again, this will obviously depend on my workload for uni as that has to come first, and on how much money I have to be able to go out and buy new make up, but I already have a couple of ideas for some posts!

Practise hand-lettering!

This is the one I'm most excited about! As you can see, I've already got creative with decorating my bullet journal and I can't wait to have a few more fonts at my disposal! I find hand-lettering really therapeutic and it's so satisfying to look at. I also started designing and making my own birthday cards last year, so I'm going to try and start doing that again as I think personalised, hand-made things are so lovely to receive!

So there we have it, my goals for 2018! I'm going to try really hard to stick to them, but I'm also not going to put an insane amount of pressure on myself as I always do. This year has definitely taught me that I need to be more forgiving of myself and to just let myself breathe; I think having a couple of goals on my list that I can use as a way to chill out will really help me.

I'm pretty excited to see what this year has in store, and there's already a couple of things that I have planned, such as theatre trips, my friends visiting me up in Birmingham and a holiday to Siena in July for my boyfriend's aunt's birthday which I'm so excited for! Come at me 2018!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...
