Gorgeous Glitter // Nyx Haul Review

Nyx Glitter Primer, Infinite Shadowstick in "Crystal" and Face and Body Glitter in "Ice"

So my Christmas party with work is this weekend and that basically gives me the perfect excuse to go all out with my make-up, especially with the eyes, so of course it's time to break out the glitter! Now I've never attempted glitter eye make-up before, so after watching a few YouTube tutorials (I mostly used Carli Bybel's Holiday look from a couple of years ago for this one) I went straight over to the Boot's website and started shopping! I ended up getting everything from Nyx; they're really affordable and all of their products I've used before are really good quality. The first product straight in my basket was the Infinite Shadowstick in "Crystal" (£6.50). I've seen loads of beauty bloggers using this product and it's the same one Carli used in her tutorial, so I'm quite excited to try it! Next on my list was the Glitter Primer (£8.00) and Face and Body Glitter in "Ice" (£5.50). I was a bit dubious about paying that much for the Primer but you do get a good sized tube so that's not so bad. The glitter looks really pretty too and quite pigmented so hopefully the colour pay-off will be good!

First Impressions

Glitter Primer

I was quite surprised at the colour with this product actually; I was expecting more of a clear glue kind of thing but it's a nude colour instead. It has a slight shimmer to it with I think will work well with the glitter. It also goes slightly tacky, like eyelash glue, after about 30 seconds, so I'm hoping that the glitter will easily stick to that! According to the packaging you can also use this on your lips if you're applying glitter there so that's pretty handy too!

Infinite Shadowstick

The pigment in this is really subtle, as you can probably tell from the photo, which I don't mind so much as I'm only using it as a base colour for the glitter. It has a slight shimmer to it and it's pretty neutral; I'm thinking it might also double-up quite well as a browbone highlight colour! It swatched quite easily onto my skin, the formula feels quite creamy which is really nice! It also doesn't budge; I originally tested this on the top of my hand when I first got it and even after washing them three times, the colour was still going strong which is pretty impressive!

Face and Body Glitter

Again, not the best photo of this product, but if I'm honest swatching pale glitter on pasty skin like mine is never going to go well! I tested this on top of the primer and it seemed to stick really well which is definitely a good sign! It definitely works better if you pat it on rather than sweep your brush and the pigment is really nice. My only niggle is that there is a lot of greenish pigment in here and I was expecting more of a brilliant white from the pictures online. However I don't mind so much as the skirt I'm wearing to the meal has green in it so it won't clash with that at least!

How It Looked

I did try and get a photo after using each product, but I tend to be quite messy when I'm applying eye make-up and prefer to go back in with a wipe and tidy up later, so all the photos weren't that great. Here is the finished look though, again apologies for the dodgy lipstick, I'm not really sure what's going on with that! I started off with the Infinite Shadowstick; if I'm honest I'm a bit disappointed with it. I don't know whether this is down to the primer I'm using, but it came out really patchy and it was so hard to get an even colour. I definitely won't be using this on its own, although I was right about it being quite a good browbone highlight! Next I went in with the colour "Chino" from my MUA Hall of Fame eyeshadow palette and "Suspend" from the Urban Decay XX Vice LTD Reloaded palette (there's a review for this on the blog!) in my crease. I also darkened the outer corners with "Oilslick" from the same palette. For liner I used my new Laura Geller Lustereyes (another one I've reviewed) and then did the glitter on the lid and OH MY GOODNESS THIS PRODUCT IS GOOD! It's really good! The primer went on really easily and the glitter stuck to it perfectly, to the point where there was no fall down from it! It also looked much whiter than it did in the swatch thanks to the Shadowstick, so I'm really happy about that! I finished off the look with some Eyelure false lashes and lined my lower lashline with "Titan" from the MUA palette.

So there you have it, my finished look for the Christmas party! Overall I'm pretty happy with my purchases; as a team they work pretty well together and I'm super pleased with how easy they were to use for a first-time glitter wearer.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...
