Seventeen Mega Matte Lipstick Review

From Left to Right - Nude News, Back To The Fuchsia, Lava You A Lot
Seventeen recently released their new range of matte lipsticks and given my current obsession with matte lipstick, I of course hauled ass down to Boots and picked up my three fave shades! The range comes in 12 different shades, from nude tones right up to bright, eye-popping colours, so there's something for everyone. I tried to buy the shades that, for me, would be the most wearable and that were a little bit different to some of the lipsticks I already own. I went for Nude News, a nude shade with pink undertones, Back To The Fuchsia, which as the name suggests, is a bright pink/purple shade and Lava You A Lot, a fiery hot orange/red colour.

First Impressions

From Left to Right - Lava You A Lot, Back To The Fuchsia, Nude News

All three shades went on really smoothly when I did my swatches, they all felt really creamy in texture, which is really nice when it comes to matte lipsticks, as I usually find they dry my lips out and go all horrible and flaky. I usually fix this by putting a lip balm on underneath, however with some products I find that stops the colour going on properly, so I was pretty happy that I didn't seem to need any with these ones.

In terms of pigmentation, Lava You A Lot was hands down the best (seriously that colour is giving me life!). I mean, all three colours looked really nice on, but I could tell straight away I would need a few applications of Back To The Fuchsia and Nude News to get the most out of them. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing; sometimes it's nice having a couple of options, especially with bright, bold colours, so you can have a really subtle look if you wanted.

How They Looked

Nude News

I got what I expected with this one to be honest, although in fairness it only needed one application to get the colour you can see in this picture. And a very pretty colour it is too! You can really see the pink in there and I think this would be a really nice everyday shade. Again, the texture was really creamy so I don't think I'd need my lip balm underneath. And it was actually matte as well so it definitely does what it says on the tin! I've actually been looking for a shade similar to this one, I think I must have seen a MAC lipstick and can't for the life of me remember what it was called so I can't even look for a dupe, but this one is almost there!

Rating - 5/5

Back To The Fuchsia

Wow this colour is bright! Pleasantly surprised by it as well, I thought it might have been one of those shades that looks pretty but then actually makes you look like a Pantomime Dame once you've put it on, but props to you Seventeen, you've created a bright pink that is actually wearable! Again, a really creamy texture and I did need a couple of coats to get it there, but once I did it looked really nice and matte! Probably more of a party shade for me, but maybe in the summer it would look cute during the day!

Lava You A Lot

*Big sigh* I'm actually a little bit disappointed with this one, especially given how excited I was by the pigmentation on my swatch. You can't really see it in the picture, but it's so creamy it's almost like putting mousse on your lips, so it's really difficult to get an even colour. I did get there eventually and it might be a little bit easier to apply with a lip brush, so we'll see. In fairness, the colour is really wow and the matte finish is really nice so big points in that respect. It's also a big go-to shade for me so I reckon I will get the wear out of it.

So there you have it, my initial thoughts on the new Mega Matte lipsticks from Seventeen! They're priced at £4.49 each (although they're £3.49 on Boots' website at the moment) and as someone who tends to buy a lot of high-end make up, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality you get. Still gutted over Lava You A Lot, but it's such a nice colour and the finish is so good I will definitely be persevering with it! Obviously I've only tried 3 shades out of 12, so if you've tried any of the other colours feel free to drop me a comment down below and tell me what you thought!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "Morning After" Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Morning After" *New favourite lipstick alert*  This lipstick is seriously giving me life right now! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been constantly reaching for it. It's part of the Vice lipsticks collection from Urban Decay, which comes in 100 different shades and 6 different finishes (Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer, Sheer Shimmer and Mega Matte) and they're priced at £15. This one is from the Sheer range, it's a light nude shade that's more on the pink side. What I really love about is how buildable it is in terms of colour; one coat and you just get that really subtle, pink sheen to your lips or you can build it up into a super-glossy pink look! The only bad thing I can say about it is that they haven't made this shade in the matte finish because it would be so perf! (I think the closest you'll get in this finish is "Backtalk")

Why I Came Off The Pill // Honesty Time

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to write about coming off The Pill or not. I personally think that a lot of people, especially women, feel that they can't talk about contraception and the effects it has openly. I recently read a blog by Alex Jones (her Instagram account is @alexgracejones if you'd like to have a look) which pretty much convinced me to write this. As Alex says in her blog, contraception is a conversation I've had with friends so many times, and yet outside of those circles, you don't really hear anyone speak about it. Personally, as a woman, I've always felt it's pretty much been up to me to make sure I don't get pregnant, whether that's taking hormonal contraception or using a condom. It seems odd to me then, that there aren't many women out there talking openly about their contraception, so I think it's time we changed this! I originally went on The Pill when I was 17 because my periods were really irregular and very h...

The Cherry On Top // Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette Review

Wow I'm actually sitting down to review something that isn't a Birchbox 😂 I've been meaning to write this post since October when I got this palette, but as usual school and other life stuff have meant it's taken until now to do! RRP £42 This palette originally launched in September as a new instalment of Urban Decay's Naked series. I was really excited by it, as it's very different to all of the other Naked palettes out there and I'm a sucker for anything remotely pink-toned. It retails for £42, making it one of the more expensive palettes in the Naked series, and inside are 12 beautiful berry-toned shades: Hot Spot - a matte ivory shade. I always use these for setting my eyeshadow primer and as a browbone highlight shade. Caution - a neutral matte beige. Bang Bang - a pink shimmer. Feelz - a dusty rose matte shade. Juicy - a peachy pink matte. This is a great transition shade. Turn On - a gorgeous rose-gold metallic shade. Ambitio...
